Chancellor’s Career Fair is an initiative of the University of Nairobi’s current Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi. The Career Fair is a two (2) day event that brings graduates and employers together with singular aim of connecting graduates with industry partners for jobs and internships and internship opportunities.The Chancellor’s vision is seeing every graduate getting a job or self-employed after graduation.The Chancellor Career Fair is organized and managed by the Directorate of University Advancement on behalf of the Chancellor. The Career Fair provides graduates and career mentors with an opportunity to:
· Acquire career guidance;
· Meet with employers;
· Learn effective CV writing skills;
· Understand the job skills of the 21st Century
· Improve their employability
· Psychometric testing and assessment centre
· Get job connections through engagement with potential employers
The industry partners avails their HR and senior managers to mentor the students and University career advisors. The Government of Kenya through its Ministry of Public Service, Gender and Youth Affairs is always invited to guide on job opportunities in the public service. The companies are given exhibition space to showcase their opportunities and interact with students and staff. The students will get to know about the job requirements needed in the 21st century as well as job requirements of various companies.
During the two (2) day event, there is usually an opening ceremony that’s done in Taifa Hall and thereafter a tour of exhibition tents by the Chancellor accompanied by the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Deputy Vice Chancellor (Students Affairs), Senior Government Officials and CEOs of the participating companies.
The University invites all students of the UoN, the career mentors who are faculty members and fresh graduates’ alumni who are registered members of the University of Nairobi Alumni Association. The University provides free exhibition areas, free seminar halls and mobilize students, staff and career mentors, invite media to provide publicity pre and during the career fair.
There are no entry charges but participating companies are advised to take care of teas and lunches for their staff in the exhibition tents. However the University makes arrangements with University’s Arziki Restaurant to provide these services to companies’ staff at affordable fee. The University will provide a tent (3m x 3m), table (2mx1m) and 2 chairs for each exhibiting Company. The University is inviting at least 100 companies to participate in the Career Fair.
There will be mentorship seminars by HR and Senior Managers, alumni and guest speakers from the participating companies. Other invited speakers are drawn from job recruitment firms such as My Jobs Eye, Brighter Monday, Sheer Logic, Corporate Staffing Services (K) Ltd among others. Free Psychometric Testing and Assessment Centre
The students, staff and alumni are provided with an opportunity to undertake free psychometric testing and assessment Centre to determine their leadership and academic potential.
