Benard Otieno delivers a speech on behalf of the Association During the 61st Graduation Ceremony

We take this opportunity to congratulate you and the University, for a job well done. Feel very encouraged to utilize the skills and knowledge acquired during your time at the University, to be innovators and job creators, and not just job seekers.

The Association eagerly looks forward to your return to your Alma mater in order to give-back. You can do this initially by registering with the Association whose membership categories range from Annual to Life Membership. The UONAA secretariat is strategically placed at the graduation square to provide you with the relevant information on how you can become a member. Our appeal is to our guests who are graduates of this esteemed institution to join us in numerous areas of need, in line with our slogan “Our Alumni, Our Strength”.

The Association has continued to render necessary assistance, both financial and in kind to the alma mater.  The Association annually supports the University Bursary Fund to a tune of Ksh.2 million. To date it has disbursed over Ksh. 21 Million to support our needy students through the Dean of Students Office. To date over 800 students from various Colleges have benefited from this support.  We also support the University Open Day (Ksh.500, 000/=) annually, Nairobi Innovation Week (Ksh.500,000/=) annually, Student  Prize Awards and The Annual Sports Day  just to mention a few endeavors.

We have empowered our smaller teams, referred to as the Alumni Chapters to cascade the Association’s activities, as well as establish their own projects for the benefit of their disciplines and campuses.  The Alumni Chapters are discipline and Campus based and usually host events that are meant to bring graduates together, more so for networking.  They provide guidance and mentorship thereby helping to shape the future of faculties in terms of curricula development.

The Mombasa Alumni Chapter, launched on the 5th of April this year, is the latest of the seventeen (17) chapters  so far launched.

Please feel encouraged to identify with a chapter and continue with your Camaraderie that started off when you joined this great University in your first year.

To our alumni here today, I would like to inform you that we now have an alumni card that packs several tangible benefits beyond just alumni identification.

Finally, as you graduate today, please remember the decorum, sense of commitment and patriotism that makes the graduate of the University of Nairobi to be the most desirable graduate in the country, region and the globe.  There is no doubt that you will be great ambassadors of our Alma mater and a blessing to many wherever you go from here. May the almighty God grant you His blessings in abundance
