Over the years, UONAA has continued to play its rightful role in supporting our alma mater in various ways. UONAA has supported the UON Nairobi Innovation Week, UON Bursary Fund, UON Open Day, UON Prizes and UON Graduation Ceremonies among others.

NAIROBI INNOVATION WEEK

The Nairobi Innovation Week (NIW) is an annual flagship initiative of the University of Nairobi aimed at strengthening Kenya’s innovation ecosystem. The inaugural event took place in August, 2015.

The event involves a number of partners and sponsors such as University of Nairobi Alumni Association (UONAA); and brings together various Stakeholders to celebrate, re-focus and energize the innovation efforts in Kenya and Africa.

UONAA has continued to support the event through cash donations on annual basis as follows;

UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI SCHOLARSHIP & BURSARY FUND

In the year 2009, for the first time since its establishment, UONAA made a significant donation of Ksh.5 million to the University of Nairobi Bursary Fund.  Going forward, UONAA committed to support the University Bursary Fund with yearly donations of KShs. 2 million.

To date, UONAA has donated a total of Ksh. 23 million to the Fund in line with one of its main objectives: To assist the University to initiate, organize and sustain programmes such as Bursary Fund, Outstanding Achievement Award and Distinguished Service Award.

Each beneficiary of UONAA Award gets a Cash of Ksh. 10,000.00 but as from the 2019/2020 Scholarship Fund Award, 50 students received a total of Kshs. 40,000.00 each. The following is a summary of number of students who have in the past benefited from the UONAA Donations towards the Fund:

UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI PRIZES

The University of Nairobi Prize Award Ceremony is an annual event in the University Calendar, whereby the students who excel in their Academic Programmes are awarded prizes by a number of donors totaling eight (98) currently, including UONAA.  The Chairman, UONAA or his representative participates in the ceremony by issuing cheques of Ksh.10, 000.00 each beneficiary.  So far, UONAA has donated awards worth KShs. 1,050,000.00 as follows;

UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI OPEN DAY

UONAA Supports the University by donating a cheque of Kshs. 500,000.00 each year towards the UoN Annual open day.

UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI SPORTS DAY

UONAA Supports the University awarding the top three colleges during the various Annual Sports Day.

NAIROBI INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR

The University of Nairobi Alumni Association takes part every year during the Nairobi International Trade Fair alongside the University.

UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI AT 50 CELEBRATIONS

UoN Alumni supported the University at 50 celebrations by donating Kshs. 500,000.00 towards the production of UoN Souvenir book and also invited alumni representing various graduation cohorts since the year 1970 as representatives during the ceremony.

DONATION OF HANDWASHING STATIONS TO UON

UoN Alumni 6 handwashing stations to the 6 University Colleges in efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic at a cost of Kshs. 461,616.00
